Julio Larraz. Havana, Cuba (1944)
Born in 1944, Julio Larraz came to New York in 1972 where he made his living as a caricaturist for Rolling Stone and Time Magazine, among others. He later turned to painting. A self-taught painter, Larraz is known for his extraordinary use of whites and his use of light. A very versatile artist, Larraz has a multitude of themes. He captures the instant and uses humor in his glimpses of the ridiculous, the quiet moment and his seductive technique. After living in New York for many years, Larraz moved to Miami and now lives in Florence, Italy. An important monograph on his work was just published by Skira.
